#RPGaDay 2017 – Day 22

Which RPGs are the easiest for you to run?

Which RPGs are the easiest for you to run?

I’m still trying to work this out.

Simple consistent rules, and relatively few options are probably best for me. A clear narrative framework helps. So games with structured collaborative world-building and scene-framing work well for me. I appreciate how they can help quickly get people on the same page and into the game. I find that once people get invested and excited, and have a sense of why things work as they do, it makes my job as a GM much easier.

Durance is a good example of a structured setup I can work with, and probably Fiasco (though I’ve not run it) would suit my style too.

Games that are really heavy in setting are not so easy for me to get into for running, even though they are often the most engaging and attractive to play. I’m not so keen on crunchy games either, or ones that present a myriad of in-play mechanics-driven options.

Surprisingly perhaps, I think I count Savage Worlds in that latter category. I enjoy playing it, but I don’t think I would find it easy to run.
